Bathroom Renovations Cost Melbourne

Are wanting to re-do your bathroom but are wondering what a bathroom renovation costs?

The answer depends on several factors including the size of the room, the material you choose for your cabinetry, how much cabinetry you want, the type and quantity of tiles, the benchtop material, and of course the particular fittings you select – bath, basin(s), tapware, toilet suite and so on.

The range of bathroom renovation costs starts at about $25,000 and can go up to $50,000 for a large, luxury bathroom fitted with the best of everything, but on average clients at Ultimate Kitchens & Bathrooms pay about $35,000.

The largest contributor to the cost is the many trades that is required. First, an electrician and a plumber are needed to disconnect services before the demolition and removal of the existing bathroom. There is usually carpentry work, to lower the floor for a walk in shower, to move walls or to frame up a bath. The bathroom walls must then be plastered, the shower floor screeded and the bathroom waterproofed. Benchtops are fitted and tiles are laid, before the cabinetry is installed. Shower glass and mirrors need to be fitted, all 90 degree angles surfaces must be caulked and walls painted. Then there’s the attachment of all accessories, the plumbing and electrical work fitted off, and a final professional clean!

Fittings can also add substantially to bathroom renovation costs, particularly items such as certain freestanding baths or even particular tapware.

The joinery for the vanity also adds to the cost, with some materials more expensive than others to manufacture.

Finally, tiles contribute to the final figure, again depending on the square metreage (including whether the tiles are taken up to the ceiling or not) and the type of tile.

If problems are encountered such as water damage, this must be budgeted for as well.

People often assume that a bathroom renovation costs less than a kitchen, but in fact when you consider the amount of work involved, from a range of tradespeople, on average it is actually the other way around.
